There's a new Jaw Titan in town in Attack on Titan as Porco Galliard met his gruesome end at the hands of Eren Jaeger.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Attack on Titan Season 4, Episode 19, "Two Brothers," now streaming on Funimation, Hulu and Crunchyroll.
In Season 4, Episode 19 of Attack on Titan, Porco Galliard finally took one beating too many at the hardened hands of Eren Jaeger. After a bloody brawl in which he gave his all, Porco ultimately failed to steal the Founding Titan from Eren as he'd been trying to do for the entirety of the Final Season. With Porco's wounds too severe for even Titan healing to overcome as Shiganshina was swamped by Zeke's mindless Titans, Galliard did the only thing he could and entrusted the Jaw Titan to Falco Grice.
One of the biggest lingering plot threads from the first half of the Final Season, Zeke finally carried out the full scope of his plan to turn the Paradis military into Titans via wine tainted with his spinal fluid. Falco's accidental consumption of the wine was not part of the plan, and it distressed Zeke to force Falco into a Titan despite the pleas of his older brother Colt. Fortunately for Falco, he was transformed into a mindless Titan in the immediate vicinity of Reiner Braun and Porco Galliard, both of whom were beaten, weary and prepared to pass on their Titan to save their child comrade.
Porco has always had a strong resentment of Reiner, as he spent his life believing that Reiner had stolen the Armored Titan, which Porco had been in a position to inherit as a fellow Warrior candidate. In an attempt to get Porco back on his feet, Reiner appeared to give Porco a memory in which Marcel Galliard, Porco's older brother and previous inheritor of the Jaw Titan, admitted to swaying Marley against Porco in order to protect him from a short and violent life as a Warrior. Porco has always blamed Reiner for snatching the Armored Titan and being on the mission during which Marcel was killed, and this new memory finally set Porco at ease.
As Reiner prepared to allow Falco to eat him and inherit the Armored Titan, Porco couldn’t help but one-up Reiner one last time by sacrificing himself to save Falco before Reiner could. During Porco's fight with Eren, Galliard had his Titan's nape crushed, obliterating Porco's skull beyond even Titan repair, so Porco was going to die one way or the other. As a child and promising Warrior candidate beloved by them all, even the angry and distant Porco had no compunction about giving up his already-doomed life to save Falco.
Brotherly bonds have become the emotional center of AoT as of late, as Zeke chose his faith in Eren over Colt and Falco's lives, while Porco finally made peace with Marcel's legacy. Falco will probably be abhorred to learn that he ate Porco when he wakes up, but Galliard knew it was important that the Jaw Titan stay in Marley's control. After all, if a Titan Shifter dies without passing on their Titan, that Titan is inherited by the next Eldian to be born anywhere in the world, which means there's no guarantee that the Eldian baby would have been in Marley.
Porco Galliard was far too temperamental for a Titan Shifter, as evidenced by his constant beatdowns whenever he would rush into battle. The much more level-headed Falco might be able to make better use of a Titan as swift and strong as the Jaw Titan. However, there's no indication that Falco will have time to learn to control his Titan, considering that the outcome of Eren and Zeke's struggle inside the Paths is yet to be revealed. Things are already at an 11 in Attack on Titan, and Falco's Jaw Titan might have no role or a major one in the escalation of this disaster that's sure to come as AoT continues.
